Types of Hyundai Keys We Replace
Hyundai has used several generations of key technology across its lineup, and the type your vehicle requires makes a significant difference in how replacement is handled. Older models — roughly pre-2000 — often used a basic metal key with no electronics, which we can cut on-site in minutes. From the early 2000s onward, Hyundai began using transponder keys, where a small chip inside the key head must be programmed to match your vehicle's immobilizer system. Without correct programming the key will turn in the ignition but the engine won't start. We carry a wide range of OEM-compatible transponder blanks for models like the Elantra, Sonata, Santa Fe, Tucson, Accent, Veloster, and Genesis-era vehicles.
Newer Hyundai models use either a key fob with a separate emergency blade, or a fully proximity-based smart key (sometimes called a push-button start key). These require specialized OBDII diagnostic programming tools to pair with the vehicle's ECU. If you have a Hyundai equipped with the Blue Link system or advanced proximity entry, that's no problem — our mobile units are equipped for it. We also replace and reprogram remote head keys, which combine the physical key and the lock/unlock buttons in a single unit. Whatever you're driving, tell us your year, model, and trim when you call and we'll confirm on the spot that we can handle it.
