Types of Acura Keys We Replace and Program
Acura has evolved its key technology significantly across model years, and understanding what you have matters for getting the right replacement. Older Acura models — think late 1990s through mid-2000s — typically use a transponder chip key where the blade is cut to match your ignition and a micro-chip inside communicates with the car's immobilizer. If that chip isn't programmed correctly, the engine simply won't start even if the key turns. We carry the blank stock and programming software to handle these on-site, which means no tow truck, no dealer appointment, and no multi-day wait.
Newer Acuras — including most MDX, RDX, TLX, and ILX models from 2014 onward — use a proximity smart key (also called a keyless access key or push-to-start fob). These units communicate with the vehicle via a rolling encrypted signal and must be programmed to your specific VIN. Losing the only smart key for a late-model Acura used to mean an expensive dealer visit, but our mobile unit carries the advanced AUTEL and Xtool programming platforms needed to add or replace these keys right in your driveway, parking lot, or roadside — including in busy areas near JFK or on the streets of Lawrence, Cedarhurst, or Rockaway Beach.
