Types of Audi Keys We Replace and Program
Audi has evolved its key technology significantly over the decades, and the exact type of key your vehicle uses depends on the model year and trim level. Older Audi models — think late 1990s through mid-2000s — typically use a transponder chip key. The chip inside the key head must be programmed to match your car's immobilizer system, or the engine simply won't start even if the blade physically turns the ignition. We cut the blade to your vehicle's specifications and program the transponder on-site, so you drive away with a fully functional key.
Newer Audi models use remote head keys (flip keys or switchblade keys) that combine the mechanical blade with an integrated key fob for locking and unlocking. More recent A4, A6, Q5, Q7, and other models in the current lineup often use an Audi Advanced Key — a proximity smart key that allows keyless entry and push-button start. These smart keys require specialized programming that links the key's unique ID to the car's central locking module and immobilizer. We handle all of these formats, including cases where you need a second key programmed or where you've lost all keys entirely and need a fresh start.
